Appeals Specialist
With a strong foundation in legal research, legislative policy, and client services, Tatiana Smith brings a well-rounded and detail-oriented approach to the legal field. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Professional Writing from the University of California, Davis, and obtained her Paralegal Certification from the University of California, Berkeley Extension.
As an ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act) Disability Appeals Specialist at Kantor & Kantor, Tatiana specializes in representing individuals whose disability claims have been denied, delayed, or underpaid by employer-sponsored insurance plans. Tatiana understands the tactics insurers use and is skilled in developing comprehensive appeal strategies. Tatiana works closely with clients, physicians, and vocational experts to build compelling administrative records, and challenge unjust claim denials.
Tatiana’s diverse experience includes serving as a Legislative Consultant, where she prepared policy analyses and reports for state lawmakers, and working as an Intake Director at Kantor & Kantor, where she was often the first point of contact with prospective clients. Driven by a commitment to clarity, advocacy, and results, Tatiana is enthusiastic about helping vulnerable individuals navigate complex legal challenges with dignity and confidence.
Outside of her legal work, Tatiana channels her determination and love of teamwork into adventurous and engaging pursuits. A former collegiate rower, she has a passion for water sports, particularly whitewater rafting, which she enjoys annually with friends and family. Tatiana also finds satisfaction in tackling jigsaw puzzles and maintains her energy as an avid cyclist, whether outdoors or at in-person cycling classes.
