Regarding Her Work With Clients Suffering From Eating Disorders.
Last year, Ms. Kantor won an appellate decision for client Laura Jacobs, who was diagnosed with life-threatening bulimia. After her insurance benefits were denied for treatment, Ms. Kantor sued the medical plan provider, Kaiser.
The appellate court reversed and remanded the lower court's decision in the plan's favor and not only ruled that Jacobs must be reimbursed for her treatment, but also required to plan to pay Ms. Kantor's fees and costs.
This year, Ms. Kantor won an appeal to the California Department of Insurance after United Healthcare denied benefits for Kimberly Shepard, who suffers from anorexia nervosa. The Department of Insurance ruled that Shepard met all the plan's requirements for medical coverage and ordered that she be reimbursed for her medical care.
Ms. Kantor continues to work not only with clients with eating disorders but also people suffering from a variety of disabilities, diseases and conditions for which medical plans and insurers routinely decline to pay benefits. These include fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, Epstein Bar, multiple sclerosis, lupus and many other types of invisible disabilities.
